这是由LEECE和他的伙伴们共同设计的巴拉瑞特癌症护理中心，位于澳大利亚。这个项目可以服务于该城市中的额10万人甚至更多，癌症病人和家属在这里可以得到最温暖的护理和最安静的环境。
这个项目从外观来看，是一座5层高的异性玻璃塔，它的前身是一座有着100多年历史医院大楼，但是在近代被废弃了。这座新的建筑很快会成为当地的地标性建筑，也会成为当地最高的建筑物之一。在建筑物的内部有很多街景的元素，包括青石地板、高低座位以及公共艺术墙。另外，在大厅中还设计了一个地方聚会场所，不久的将来，这里会成为人们日常生活的一部分。
这个项目的外观使用了天然的吸水木材，并规划了可以降低噪音的天花板，为住在其中的患者提供一个安静和平的环境。同时，设计师还十分重视阳光的力量，这里不论早晨、中午还是傍晚，都有着明亮、清新的空间。
combining facilities for cancer therapy and treatment that were previously located disparately across the city, australian firm billard leece partnership has completed the new ballarat regional integrated cancer center in victoria, australia. serving a regional city of 100,000 people and the wider area, the building offers the most up-to-date care in a warm and calming environment.
a five storey glass tower with profiled aluminum fins reinvigorates the historic, 100 year old hospital building, which in recent times became derelict. flanking a central atrium space, the new extension is one of the tallest buildings in the city and its distinctive profile and surface patterning changes character throughout the day.
the interior of the atrium draws elements from the streetscape of the city, including bluestone flooring and low height walls for seating and public art – it is where all the activity passing through is visible, making a familiar place for gathering, casual discussion and informal knowledge exchange. changing weather conditions from outside and passers-by become part of the daily activities as they are visible from within.
acoustically absorbent natural timbers line the walls and ceilings reducing ambient noise, helping to provide a sense of peace to the space. a careful manipulation of natural light through a a sculpted roof also adds to the patient-friendly environment, with distinctive spaces for morning sun, midday sun (light dappled by northern gardens), and evening light.
