Several Problems on Design Against Freezing Damage of the Channel in South-toNorth Water Transfer

Abstract: The Middle Route of South-North Water Transfer goes from south to north, from the warm zone to cold zone. In the cold zone, the main channel and the branch main channel for water transfer will meet the freezing damage and ice injury problems such as channel bed frozen, ice slush in channel in winter annually, which will destroy the channel works and severely affect the safety of water transfer. So in the design stage, construction phase and runtime, preparatory work must be done to prevent the channel from freezing damage and ice injury. In this paper, in view of the characteristics of the freezing damage and ice injury, according to the related criterion and information, the significance of preventing the channel from freezing damage and ice injury and the engineering and non- engineering measures are stated.
