China Plans to Monitor Second Largest River
5/17/2002
ZHENGZHOU, May 17, 2002 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- China is to establish a center to monitor the quality and levels of its second largest river, the Yellow River, says the Yellow River Water Conservation Committee.

The center, based in Zhengzhou, the provincial capital of central Chinas Henan Province, has been working on a feasibility study for the project.

The center will adopt high technologies including advanced monitoring, computer networking and digital information engineering technology, in order to follow the changes of the quality of river water and provide acute and timely information about the water resources.

According to the committee, the river has been suffering from severe pollution since the 1990s.
