Structural engineering is the art of using materials that have properties which can only be estimated

To build real structures that can only be approximately analyzed

To withstand forces that are not accurately known

So that our responsibilities with respect to public safety is satisfied





do not use a structural analysis program unless you fully understand the theory and approximation used within the program

do not creat a computer model until the loading; material properties and boundary condition are clearly defined
