Construction 3 years is even better for design. Don't worry about anything, just get started!
Here are some clues that might help:
1) Get familiar a little bit with structural analysis
2) Get a better idea of concrete and steel design depending on the area you want to work on
3) Through design progress, getting better understanding of codes.
You will be done!
