明白这些以后，我们来看怎么实施这个复述的过程。方法很简单，首先选择一篇文章进行记忆，如《新概念英语》三册的第一课：A puma at large。如果大家读过几次，大概对每句话的含义都了解了，然后自信满满地走到英语角，当然不能随便拉一个人就开始背“Pumas are large cat-like animals which are found in America. When reports came into London Zoo that a wild puma had been spotted forty-five miles south of London, they were not taken seriously…”我们首先是听别人说什么，如果这组讨论的是音乐，而你准备的是Puma,自然不能不择手段动说：“Music? I hate music. I like puma. You know pumas are large cat-like animals which are found in America.”这样就彻底废了。要不知不觉地把话题顺过来，而且要有自己的语言习惯，比如从最简单的话题开始讨论。一个组讨论animal，问你“Which is your favorite animal？”你不用想都知道是puma，然后开始说：“You know， pumas are large cat-like animals which are found in America。”背到这里就不要背了，因为再背就穿帮了。因为一个人背到兴起处会闭上眼睛、脑袋上扬，一个人背得很爽，旁边的人全部走光了。复述的要旨在于让别人看到“你”，也就是每个人的独特之处，或是思想的、或是结构的、或是语言的。所以背完这句以后，要加入自己的东西，停下来问一句： Excuse me, do you happen to know where America is？”旁边一定有人以为是美国，这个时候你马上说：“No. it is not the United States of America, it is a continent connecting both North America and South America。”旁边人恍然大悟的时候，你可以接着说:“Yesterday I read a report。”趁他人还没有反应过来的时候，接着背第二句:“When reports came into London Zoo that…”这时你会发现别人永远都不知道你的套路。如果你没有任何多余的内容和材料可以继续周旋，只需要说一句话：“Sorry, it is kind of late, I have to go now.”然后直接走掉。无论什么话题，只要你愿意，都可以拉到你这里来。比如第二组讨论的是运动，问你：“Which is your favorite sport? 你当然你不能说：“My favorite sport is puma.”起码你可以说:“My favorite sport brand is puma…”等。这样讲给人感觉有点离题，所以建议大家可以参考以下的应对方法：“Actually my favorite sport is running. When I was young, I used to dream about running as fast as puma. You know, pumas…”然后如法炮制。到第三组讨论环保问题时，你仍然可以说：“The first thing that should be done right now is to protect these animals that are going to die and one of these species is called puma. You know, pumas…”
更进一步的复述是总结和改述，也就是换一句话来表达同样的意思。拿上面的puma为例，原句是“pumas are large cat-like animals which are found in America. ”经过复述改述后，可以变成“One kind of the animals that look like a large cat can usually be found / are usually born in America—the continent that connects both North America and South America. They are called pumas. ”大家需要掌握的要旨是，除了核心思想、信息和重要的语言点没有变化，其他的词句和结构都可以采用自己的语言习惯替换。渐渐地，我们会发现我们是在用学过的无数篇文章中的表达去改述新的一篇文章的内容。当各位有这样的感觉的时候，恭喜你，复述和改述的技巧已经入门了。
