Thailand is recognized as a tourist destination in the world. It has unique natural scenery and tourism resources, and has formed its own unique and relatively complete system in the landscape of Southeast Asia. Based on the profound historical and cultural accumulation of Thailand, modern landscape design has absorbed the concept of modern European and American landscape planning and design, so it often shows a modern, simple, lively, natural design style without losing local characteristics.
Today, I would like to recommend Shma, a Thai star landscape design firm with frequent excellent works in recent years.
▲Shma
▲Shma limited company
Shma, which means "land" in Thai, embodies the original intention of the landscape architects. Founded in 2007 in Bangkok, Thailand, THE Shma team implements multidisciplinary collaboration and an open working model with a passion for "creating a better Planet". In the process of urban modernization, traditional and modern elements are combined to respond to the complex urban background with simple design strategies. Shma's work always seeks to address the complexity and diversity of nature and human ecology, the climate, topography, history, culture and social phenomena that make it up, using simple design strategies and methods.
▲Shma
Shma team specializes in extracting elements from the natural environment surrounding the project site, such as mountains, rivers, oceans and trees, and studying the interaction between different ecological elements, and then transforming the inspiration into a variety of Spaces, colors and textures. Moreover, Shma is also good at using the combination of green plants and space. No matter it is high level or low density space, their final design will present a feeling like a fairyland forest.
Shma believe that our territory is an ecosystem, a living mechanism of nature and human with its own life, rhythm and system. The ecosystem is uncertain and fragile that we need innovative tools to deal with it. However, we first need to understand sensitivity and connectivity of the context between manmade and nature, city and rural, local and global, as well as wisdom and technology.
?Shma
Expand Our Boundary . To make a change to our living territory, we cannot limit our roles or works to the conventional definition. Landscape architecture should be redefined to create the integral territory of all scales from regional to a garden. There is also no different spatial typology between architecture and landscape, as well as indoor and outdoor space.
?Shma
Sustainability as a Framework. We fully acknowledge that built environment can create either positive or negative impact to our territory. We need to be sensitive and careful in the way we intervene sites and their context to cause minimum disruption to the existing ecosystem, and be a part of the mitigation tool to heal or improve the environment in a long term.
?Shma
Place not Space. Shma believe in creating a place where people enjoy, feel related and belong to. This requires more than a well-designed space. We need to fully understand the ecosystem of each context, and put in the right mixture of programs and design elements to transform a space into a place full of life and joy.
?Shma
Let It Grow. Shma goal is not to create a landscape space, but to improve the society and the environment. Our landscape design is a starting point. Being used by a community, it will grow and evolve through time, and eventually create the sustainable and inclusive future for everyone.

Labaris
? Napon Jaturapuchapornpong
? Shma
The Labaris Resort project is situated on a narrow strip of land surrounded by the beautiful Korat Mountains. The enchanting and mysterious natural setting inspired the design team for Wonderland Forest, which blends kauai's lush nature with the mysterious English gardens to create novel experiences in this magical land.
The project is divided into four areas. Each area tells a chapter of the fairy tale through the unique concept of the maze. Each area of the maze has a different design, corresponding to the different concepts of each chapter, and finally connected to the whole story line. The meandering maze enriches guests' experience in the confined space.
Flower Valley is the front area of the project, consisting of a maze of flower hills and winding paths running through them. The maze is a natural boundary separating the front area, which is open to the public, from the inside area, which is used by guests. The cafe was hidden under the hill like a fairy tale underground hut. At the corner of Flower Valley, the playground is tucked into a maze of hills, surrounded by seating areas where parents can relax while watching their children.

The Green Maze is the second area located next to the Valley of Flowers, which consists of a reception hall, hotel rooms and a green maze. A green maze leads guests from the reception hall to the guest rooms, adding depth and hierarchy to the passage, like a journey to a castle. In addition, labyrinth passages lead to different rooms, giving guests more privacy.

The shrubbery creates a narrow passage through the villas, creating a maze of mirrors in the center of the area. The area features symmetrical winding paths and is enclosed by reflective walls to create the illusion of infinite paths and infinite space. The maze amaze guests, creating a unique experience of discovering a secret base in a mysterious forest.

The restaurant features an endless pool surrounded by trees, creating a novel experience of swimming and splashing in a dense forest stream. There are two islands in the middle of the pool and a children's pool next to it. The greenery surrounding the pool extends to nature through the stream and forest at the rear.

“Come on, Calm on”
? Napon Jaturapuchapornpong
According to research from the University of Exeter, interacting with nature for at least two hours a week can reduce stress. For this reason, Shma wanted to design a "door" for people in a busy society. Open the door and use nature to deal with life's stresses, using the Healing Garden as a tool to relieve stress after a tiring day at work. "Come on, Calm On" landscape Garden is a new project in ThongEk's creative Community program, which uses nature as a means to ease people's anxiety about today's chaotic world by hosting a series of therapeutic activities in the space.

In addition, Shma believes that the concept of a healing garden can also be applied to everyone's personal space, whether it's a bedroom balcony or adapting to the landscape style of one's own home. This idea can be implemented and adapted to everyone to help relieve stress and prepare them for the "chaos" of the next day.

? Shma
In 1955, the 46 kilns in Chiang Mai after three generations were removed from their original functions, 18 of which were converted into hotels and the rest were either used as warehouses or abandoned. Together with the surrounding trees, they form a mature state of nature and become one of Chiang Mai's distinctive attractions. In 2016, the Shma team was invited by the local community to use the remaining tobacco kilns and the surrounding natural environment to replan a natural leisure space that highlights Chiang Mai's rich history and diverse architectural and natural heritage while providing more facilities for existing visitors and attracting new guests.

? Wison Thngthunya
Mapletree Business City Ii is located in the western part of Singapore Island and is an industrial area featuring ports and warehouses. With the exception of the Kentish Hills Nature Reserve, few other areas of the region have been left intact. The site was originally completely covered by concrete warehouse buildings. Due to the increasing demand for office space in Singapore, the client decided to demolish the warehouse and transform it into a modern office space.
? Wison Thngthunya
In order to create an ecological corridor with the nearby Kent Hills Park, a large "forest ecosystem" was created on the roof of the car park building as a welcoming site and intersection of phase 1 and 2. In this development, 70% of the site is covered with greenery. In the management of large areas of green vegetation, a series of hills are designed not only to withstand heavy rain, but also to transform the relatively flat ground into a dynamic space to accommodate a variety of activities.

Think park
? Wison Thngthunya
The design of Chiang Mai Mind Park is inspired by Chiang Mai's rolling mountains and natural landscape. The natural curves running through the design resemble mountain contour lines or tree rings. Smooth curves appear on platforms, flowerbeds and seats, further accentuating the character of the site and creating Spaces that suit the needs of the occupants. In order to make the landscape soft into the surrounding environment, the designers also used a large number of natural materials.

Forested house(林屋)
?Openspace
Rapid urbanization has sacrificed green space to meet the need for habitation, and the loss of green space has a significant impact on the environment in many ways, the most serious of which is air pollution. Studies have shown that trees could be used as a way to tackle the problem because of their ability to capture particulate matter and produce oxygen.
?Openspace
The project is a study to find a sustainable and low-maintenance way to bring greenery back to private homes in the city while still maximising the site area. Through thoughtful and efficient design, the lush roofs of the Forest House reintegrate the trees into the city.
