2019年底，在广州海心沙岛升维计划项目竞赛中，XAA建筑事务所 “云与水之歌”方案中标。其中，海心沙东区规划的核心——英迪格酒店（HOTEL INDIGO）历时4年，经过与洲际酒店管理团队、广州城投集团、各专业设计施工团队的紧密协作，已于近期建成开业，成为面向世界展示广州中轴线海心沙岛新貌的地标。

In late 2019, XAA Architects emerged victorious in the competition for the Haixinsha Island Renewal Plan in Guangzhou with their enchanting “Song of Clouds and Water” proposal. Notably, the crown jewel of the Haixinsha East Plan, HOTEL INDIGO, has recently unveiled its splendor after four years of meticulous collaboration with the InterContinental Hotel Management Team, Guangzhou Urban Investment Group, and various esteemed design and construction teams. This architectural gem now stands as an iconic testament, showcasing the rebirth of Haixinsha Island, a pivotal axis in the heart of Guangzhou.

海心沙位于城市新中轴线和珠江的交汇处，地理位置重要，曾为第16届广州亚运会开闭幕的主场馆。海心沙岛占地17万平方米，现有保留建筑面积约11.9万平方米，其中西区场馆（含地下空间）建筑面积约9.8万平方米。与广州塔、花城广场、珠江夜游等形成了旅游热点地区，是广州重要旅游集散地和目的地。

Nestled at the crossroads of the city’s novel central axis and the graceful Pearl River, Haixinsha holds sway as a pivotal geographic landmark. It once served as the grand stage for the 16th Guangzhou Asian Games’ opening and closing ceremonies. Encompassing 170,000 square meters, the island preserves a legacy of approximately 119,000 square meters of existing structures, with the West End venues, including subterranean spaces, occupying around 98,000 square meters. It forms a tourist haven alongside Canton Tower, Huacheng Square, and the enchanting Pearl River Night Tour, establishing itself as a vital tourism hub and destination within Guangzhou.

生态驿站Ecological Nexus

作为广州新中轴与珠江交汇的中心生态岛，海心沙的生态林引来众多鸟类迁徙落脚，成为钢铁森林里的候鸟驿站。

Situated at the confluence of Guangzhou’s new central axis and the Pearl River, Haixinsha’s ecological sanctuary beckons migratory birds, transforming the island into a haven within the steel and concrete landscape.

海心沙设计团队以“微介入”的思路，强调“新旧碰撞”，并提出海心沙“升维计划”，拟通过一系列的可持续性升级与发展步骤，让海心沙分阶段迭代进化。

Taking a “micro-intervention” approach, the design team emphasizes the “collision of old and new” and proposes the “Upgrading Plan” for Haixinsha. Through a series of sustainable upgrade and development steps, Haixinsha will evolve in stages.

海心沙东区原有建筑群的前身是广州军区被服仓库，现被改造成为岛内唯一一座江心酒店。

The erstwhile site of the East District’s buildings on Haixinsha Island, once a warehouse for the Guangzhou Military Region, now stands transformed into the sole riverside hotel on the island.

改造后的酒店坐落于繁茂树林间的一处静土，人们能沉浸在清脆鸟鸣之中，感受广州城市文化。

The hotel now resides in a serene locale, surrounded by lush greenery, offering guests the melodic serenade of birdsong and a genuine immersion into the cultural tapestry of Guangzhou.

设计团队从城市与岛、环境与人的角度，以文化为线索思考了建筑的改造。

Approaching the building’s metamorphosis from the perspectives of the city and the island, environment, and inhabitants, the design team weaves a narrative guided by culture.

在既有建筑与古榕的庭院内，以现代设计手法将传统“拱窗”元素重构形成的拱圈连廊，保留了现场的大榕树，围合形成主入口前场空间。建筑、古榕、静水，形成极具张力的秩序空间。

Within the existing structures and the courtyard adorned with ancient banyan trees, modern design breathes life into the traditional “arch window” elements, preserving the grand banyan tree on-site while enclosing the main entrance forecourt. This architectural dance, alongside the ancient tree and placid waters, manifests into a dynamic and harmoniously ordered spatial environment.

简洁白色外墙与古铜色金属板材形成材质碰撞，入口空间则用酒红色提亮，成为庭院的焦点。

A pristine white exterior harmonizes with antique bronze metal panels, while the entrance space commands attention in a regal wine-red hue, serving as the centerpiece of the courtyard.

Dynamic Symbiosis

新旧共生Coexistence of Legacy and Innovation

新旧抉择之间，建筑师选择了共生，呈现出建筑的年轮：原有旧的窗花、阳台与结构系统被保留下来，并根据酒店的功能需求，叠加出新的肌理。

In the delicate dance between history and the present, the architects opt for coexistence, unveiling the building’s annual rings. The original window grilles, balconies, and structural systems stand preserved, adorned with new textures crafted to suit the hotel’s functional needs.

生态共生Ecological Harmony

以旁观的姿态驻留在林边，建筑延展出多层次露台，与环境对话，零距离观察候鸟栖息的最佳景点，屋顶则提供了露天集会的开放空间。在城市里，营造一个与生态环境共生互动的场所。

From the forest’s edge, the building extends into multi-tiered terraces, seamlessly integrating with the environment, providing optimal vantage points for birdwatching, and offering a rooftop haven for outdoor gatherings. Within the urban landscape, this creates a space for symbiotic interaction with the ecological surroundings.

人文共生Cultural Tapestry

建筑承载着广粤在地文化，骑楼、风雨连廊、架空花园等空间穿插其间，联系整个酒店、商业组团。强亲和力的公共空间介入，活跃了首二层开放的商业空间，引导人流，激活海心沙。满洲窗、花砖、粤剧戏台和东山洋楼等元素融汇到特定的场景之中，展现广州珠水涌动、粤韵风华的历史文化名城底蕴。

The building becomes a vessel for Guangdong’s and Cantonese local culture, adorned with arcade-style corridors, sheltered walkways for wind and rain, and elevated gardens interwoven throughout, connecting the entire hotel and commercial cluster. Animated public spaces breathe life into the open commercial areas on the first and second floors, directing the flow of people and rejuvenating Haixinsha. Elements such as Manchu windows, floral tiles, Cantonese opera stages, and Dongshan Western-style architecture seamlessly integrate into specific scenes, unveiling the historical and cultural legacy of Guangzhou, a city graced by the flowing Pearl River.

建筑师旨在采用“升维叠加”的理念，以动态时空视角审视这片轴心区域，用可持续的理念来解读海心沙，在不同的时代背景下呈现出与时俱进的空间形态。海心沙英迪格酒店塑造了现代设计与广府传统文化的完美融合，让人们身临其境体验广州国际大都市的繁华、活力和气魄。

Haixinsha in Guangzhou and the Bay Area stands as a city node perpetually ascending.

The architects strive to employ the concept of “dimensional superimposition” to dynamically envision this axial area, interpreting Haixinsha with a sustainable ethos, presenting a spatial form that resonates across different eras. Hotel Indigo at Haixinsha achieves a flawless fusion of contemporary design and traditional Cantonese culture, allowing individuals to immerse themselves in the vibrancy, vitality, and grandeur of Guangzhou’s international metropolis.

三面环水、绿野环绕，可饱览珠江碧波潋滟及其两岸日与夜的五光十色；登岛，跨珠江水与城市短暂离别，漫步穿梭林间感受江心之岛的静谧清新；缓步到达榕树之下，体验广粤格调韵味。

Enveloped by water on three sides, surrounded by verdant landscapes, one can revel in the mesmerizing hues of the Pearl River and its banks throughout the day and night. Upon stepping onto the island, briefly disconnecting from the river and the city, meandering through the forest unveils the tranquility and freshness encapsulated by the island. Strolling beneath the banyan tree, one can savor the style and charm unique to Guangdong and Canton.

The hotel encompasses an outdoor lawn spanning approximately 500 square meters, an infinity pool, a chic bar, and spaces dedicated to entertainment and fitness, enhancing the comfort and convenience for guests. The ground-floor neighborhood restaurant curates a culinary journey through local delicacies and a fusion of Eastern and Western cuisines. Meanwhile, the rooftop bar hosts regular jazz and blues performances, fashioning a trendy and leisurely urban oasis.
