Mecanoo被选中设计新的 "澳门中央图书馆"，该图书馆位于澳门历史中心的联合国教科文组织世界遗产--塔石广场附近。

该图书馆将位于前 "艾斯托里尔酒店"（由出生在澳门的葡萄牙建筑师Alfredo Victor álvares设计）的原址，该酒店于1962年作为澳门第一家赌场度假村开业，但自90年代以来一直空置。

mecanoo has been selected to design the new ‘macau central library’ adjacent to tap seac square, a UNESCO world heritage site in the city’s historical center. the library will be situated on the site of the former ‘hotel estoril’ (designed by the macau-born portuguese architect, alfredo victor jorge álvares), which opened as the first casino resort in macau in 1962, but has remained vacant since the 1990s.

Mecanoo表示，邻近的广场将成为该计划的一个组成部分，创造一个活跃的公共领域，鼓励游客使用新图书馆的所有设施。

面向广场的立面过滤了光线，保证了室内气候的可控性，而阴影则投射到图书馆的地板和墙壁上。统一的表皮参考了室内的书架，包裹着建筑，并在主入口处像书本一样打开，以示欢迎。

mecanoo says that the adjacent square will become an integral part of the scheme, creating an active public realm that will encourage visitors to use all of the new library’s amenities. the fa?ade facing the square filters light and ensures a controlled indoor climate, while a play of shadow is projected onto the library’s floor and walls. the uniform skin, which references the bookshelves found within, wraps the building and opens up like a paper page in a welcoming gesture at the main entrance.

Mecanoo的设计并没有将图书馆简单地想象成一个文化目的地，而是试图创造一个从城市层面开始的旅程，并通过一系列相互连接的空间，将游客一直引向建筑顶部的大型阅览室。

在地面上，意大利雕塑家奥塞奥-阿孔奇（Oseo acconci）的未来主义壁画，曾经在建筑的外立面上，将被保留下来，并与大堂融为一体。

rather than imagining the library simply as a cultural destination, mecanoo’s design seeks to create a journey that commences at city level and continues through a series of interconnected spaces, leading visitors all the way to the large reading rooms at the top of the building. at ground level, the futurist mural by italian sculptor oseo acconci, once on the building’s fa?ade, will be preserved and integrated within the lobby.

在图书馆内，一个高耸的中庭向建筑的最高楼层开放，让游客可以立即确定自己的位置。

当游客通过宽敞的看台向上移动时，建筑提供了俯瞰seac广场和远处山脉的视野。位于附近的城市现有图书馆将在新建筑开放后继续作为档案空间使用。

within the library, a soaring atrium opens to the uppermost levels of the building, allowing visitors to orient themselves immediately. as visitors move upwards via spacious tribunes, the building offers views out to tap seac square and the mountains beyond. located nearby, the city’s current library will continue serving as an archival space after the new building opens.
